Kentucky Coffeebean

(Gymnocladus dioica) Deciduous tree. Coarse tree with 1-1/2- 3 foot compound leaves that remain green in fall. Flowers can be male or female, on separate trees , or on the same tree, or polygamous. Bears thick flat reddish-brown pods, which are pulpy legumes 8" long. Winter profile of bold branches and twigs is picturesque. Tolerates drought and pollution. 90 feet max.
