(Ailanthus altissima) Deciduous tree. The bark is moderately smooth and gray. The large leaves are 1 foot to 2-1/2 feet long and divided into many oblong, pointed segments with a few teeth at their bases. The green or greenish yellow flowers are small but grow in large clusters 5 -15 " long. The winged fruits are 1" - 2" long with the seed in the middle. The color of the fruit varies from reddish brown or pink to copper colored to bronze. This species is an Asian introduction that has become a part of our flora. It is a rapidly growing plant with all around superior ornamental qualities. 60 feet max.
